Education - Manager of Quality/Organization Excellence Preparation

The class prepares the student for the ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/ Organizational Excellence exam. Various topics are used to improve the student's understanding of business process improvement and applications. Students are encouraged to discuss their own companies and situations.

In addition to the usual multiple choice questions, this exam features constructed response (essay) questions designed to challenge the candidate's ability to think and organize information about the topics quickly. Therefore, the class also includes lessons in effective short essay techniques including in-class practice drills. Both Pre- and Post-tests are given. The instructor has been certified by the ASQ for the preparatory materials used in this class.

Who Should Attend?:

Anyone taking the ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence certification exam, or those individuals interested in studying quality management as a discipline.

Education and/or Experience:

10 years on-the-job experience in one more of BOK, which incl. a minimum of 5 years in a decision-making position. This may or may/not incl. mgt or supervisory positions. If you have completed a degree from a college, some of the 10 years may be waived:

• Diploma from a technical or trade school – one year
• Associates degree – two years
• Bachelors degree – four years
• Masters degree – five years

Instructor: Jeff Otte

Jeff Otte has 25+ years experience in chemical process and nuclear R&D, analytical and environmental laboratories, safety, and manufacturing in technical, quality engineering, technical writing, and management roles. He is currently the principal of OT&C, a consulting and training practice devoted to Continuous Improvement, ISO and QA. Jeff’s clients include companies involved in military application R&D, automotive & basic metals manufacture, and analytical and medical devices.

Mr. Otte has been an instructor for this class for the past 10 years. Jeff has developed and provided training in ISO, Internal Auditing, Statistical Process Control, OSHA Safety, and other disciplines for the Community College of Allegheny County, New Century Careers, Stericycle, Inc., and Penn State University. With fifteen-plus years in the Quality field, Jeff has successfully implemented A2LA (ISO 17025) and ISO 9000 registrations for multiple employers and clients.

Jeff has a self-designed Bachelors degree in Technical Writing/Chemistry from Pitt and a Masters in Adult Education from IUP. He holds ASQ certifications including CMQ/OE, CQE, CQA, and is certified by RAB-QSA as a QMS-PA. He is a member of the American Society for Training & Development-Pittsburgh and the SMC Business Councils.

Jeff is a senior member of the ASQ and the current Membership Chair, a Past Chair of the ASQ Pittsburgh section and has served as section treasurer, newsletter editor, publications chair and as a member of the ISO Focus Group and the Education Committee. He is a former editor of the ASQ Quality Management Division’s newsletter, as well as a past councilor for Region 8 of the QMD.
